The 140 Grammi guides
Five walks, written by people who live here.
Cagliari is a city you walk. From our table in Via Mameli, half an hour on foot brings you to a crypt cut into the limestone, a Pisan tower of the 1300s, a Roman amphitheatre and a botanical garden that sits inside an archaeological site. You don’t need a car and you don’t need a tour: you need to know where to go, and in what order.
We’ve put together five routes. For every stop you’ll find what it is, how long it takes to walk there from the one before, and the link to the site of whoever keeps it open — because opening times and tickets change, and the right source is always theirs. We don’t write them down ourselves: we’d rather send you to the official page than give you a timetable six months out of date.
Route 1 · half a day
Crypts, hypogea and a Roman street under a church floor.
Open the route →Route 2 · half a day to a full day
You climb once, cross the quarter on the level, and come down at the Bastione.
Open the route →Route 3 · half a day, plus an extension
An amphitheatre cut into the rock, a botanical garden inside an archaeological site, and the largest Punic necropolis in the Mediterranean.
Open the route →Route 4 · one day
Kilometres of beach inside the city, sixteen hundred hectares of lagoons with flamingos, and a headland that runs from a Punic temple to wartime bunkers.
Open the route →Route 5 · from sunset on
Where people eat, where they drink, where they go to the theatre. And which evenings of the year are worth booking a trip for.
Open the route →All the routes start and finish at Via Mameli 91, which is where we are. That isn’t an accident: they are designed to break in the middle, with lunch or dinner in between.
We don’t write the opening times and tickets ourselves: every stop links to the site of whoever keeps it open. They change, and theirs is the right source.
Halfway round
140 Grammi is at Via Mameli 91, in Stampace, below Castello: this walk starts here and comes back here. If you want the table ready, book. On Wednesdays the Carbonara is half price.
